Why American government are demanding Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate from India.

Hydroxychloroquine is the identified drug that is possibly used in the treatment of COVID-19.
Hydroxychloroquine is the oldest and inexpensive drug used in the treatment of malaria. This drug was exported to the U.S Market from India, but after the U.S Food and Drug Administration tested hydroxychloroquine on the coronavirus positive patients and found it really effective in the early stage of Corona patients. India banned the export of hydroxychloroquine to the US because India wants to utilize it for domestic hospitals.

Meanwhile, with the ban of hydroxychloroquine nearly four lakh position corona tests emerged causing more than 12,850 deaths.

Trump said that he was unaware that PM Modi had banned the export of drugs and also added that India can face several retaliation if decline to do so. After this statement, the Ministry of India took the decision that the ban on the export of hydroxychloroquine will be removed but its further export depends upon the availability of stock after meeting domestic requirements.

HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE:

It is also known as Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate. Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is sold under the brand name Plaquenil. It is mainly used to treat malaria and also in rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and porphyria cutanea.

This medication is taken orally and must be swallowed whole. It must be taken at the same time of day. The tablet must be swallowed with the meal or a glass of milk.

Hydroxychloroquine medicine may also interact with other medications, herbs, etc. The interaction may change some of its properties and prevent them from working well. It interacts with other medications such as:
  • Heart Drug: Digoxin along with hydroxychloroquine increases the risk of side effects from Digoxin as it increases its level.
  • Diabetes Drugs: Hydroxychloroquine and diabetes drug decreases the blood sugar level and can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
  • Malaria Drugs: This medication must not be taken with mefloquine as it can increase the rise of seizures.
Hydroxychloroquine should be avoided by several groups of people who have: 
  • Skin problem
  • Liver problem
  • Pregnant women
  • Children
  • Women who are breastfeeding
In several studies, it shows that the medicine can pass from the mother's blood to the baby and thus it should be avoided by pregnant women.

The dosage of this medication depends on several factors such as age, stage, medical conditions, etc.

HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE SULPHATE SIDE EFFECTS:

Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate can cause common as well as severe side effects such as:
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Blurred vision
  • Heart disease
  • Angioedema
  • Severe Hypoglycemia
  • Unusual bleeding
  • Hair loss
